Dawana Family Farm is a environment-friendly farm owned by Lily Wen, an environmental protection practitioner from the Rukai Tribe. Lily utilizes lots of recycled materials to build her houses, interior decoration and furniture.
In her cooking, she uses the leaves of banana, coconut and betel nut as the plates for her delicious and traditional aboriginal fare. Most of the her cooking vessels are made from coconut shells and bamboo. She sources the ingredients for her menu directly from her farm to avoid transportation and stockpiling of unused portions.
She keeps chickens, geese and mountain pigs who help to recycle the leftovers so food waste is kept to a minimum. These animals will become her ingredients later. If there is still any unconsumed food, she will make organic fertilizer to irrigate her farmland. She is a model of environmental protection, and a beacon to our modern world of consumption and disposal.
